Malton’s cricket club gutted in ‘arson’ attack

A cricket club pavilion in Malton was destroyed by fire in what police and fire crews believe to be a deliberate arson attack.

Firefighters were called to the Malton and Old Malton Cricket Club pavilion, off Old Malton Road, North Yorkshire, at just after 1am today.

The found the building well alight and had to remove three gas cylinders, which were taken to a safe distance and cooled.

A fire service spokesman said they believed the cause of the fire to be deliberate and added police and fire investigators would be visiting the site today.

No-one was injured in the fire but the building was almost completely destroyed.

No-one was available from the club to comment this morning.
