Man of 20 admits killing 9 year-old brother but denies murder

A MAN of 20 today admitted killing his nine year-old brother in Bradford last February. Jack Taylor was stabbed at a house on Rookes Avenue and died later in hospital.

Daniel Taylor pleaded guilty to Jack's manslaughter but denied a charge of murder.

The young boy was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Taylor, of Richardson Avenue, Bradford, also denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after his 18-year-old sister Rachel was injured in the attack.

He entered the pleas at Bradford Crown Court today.

Simon Bourne-Arton QC, prosecuting, said the Crown did not accept Taylor's guilty plea to manslaughter and the case was adjourned for a further hearing at Leeds Crown Court at a later date.

Taylor's parents Tim and Louise and sister Rachel craned their necks to get a view of him from the public gallery.

His emotional sister Elisha, 16, peered through the dark glass shielding the public gallery to get a glimpse of him and waved and cried as he was led away.

Supported by police liaison officers, the Taylor family left the court as soon as the ten-minute hearing was finished.

He will undergo further psychiatric tests and Abdul Iftikhar, defending, said they were trying to find a place for him at Rampton's secure unit.

A preliminary trial date is fixed for September 13.

Shaven-headed Taylor appeared in the dock today wearing a grey sweatshirt, grey tracksuit bottoms and with short, blond hair.

He repeatedly looked across at family members, and spoke only to confirm his name, enter his pleas and query the date of the next hearing.
