Man, 28, seriously injured in Northallerton collision

A 28-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after a collision between two cars near Northallerton earlier today.

The man, who was the front seat passenger of a Ford Focus, had to cut free by the fire service and was taken to James Cook hospital.

The collision on the A684 at Brompton directly outside the entrance to a cemetery involved the black-coloured Ford and a blue Toyota 4x4.

The driver of the Ford, a 27-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for treatment but his condition is not believed to be serious. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The road was closed for just over four hours to allow officers to examine the scene.
