A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody for questioning.

Detectives in Halifax are now appealing for witnesses following the incident.

Detective Inspector David Shaw, of Calderdale District Police, said, “We are treating this incident as a deliberate ignition, and would appeal to anyone who was in the area around Grosvenor Terrace in the early hours of Monday morning and may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously to come forward.

“Fortunately, the occupants of the property were unhurt, however the consequences of the fire could well have been life-threatening to those inside at the time. I am certain that someone will know something that can help us identify those responsible. Enquiries are ongoing.”
