Man beaten up in suspected homophobic attack

A man was dragged to the ground and kicked and punched in what is believed to have been a homophobic attack.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following the assault on the 21-year-old man in Leeds.

The victim was close to a Probation Service building at 379 York Road when two men approached him and made a homophobic remark in the early hours of Saturday.

He was then dragged to the ground before being punched and kicked. His attackers then fled on foot towards the city centre.

The two are both described as white and in their early 20s with shaved heads.

They were said to be wearing dark coloured tracksuit bottoms, dark trainers and short-sleeved polo shirts.

One of them also had a distinctive tattoo on his hand – in the form of a symbol or writing.

West Yorkshire Police have asked anyone with information about the attack – which happened at 3am – to contact Pc Townsend at the Burmantofts and Richmond Hill neighbourhood policing team by using the 0845 606 0606 number or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
