Man burned in large fire at Sheffield rubber factory

AN INVESTIGATION will be launched today after a man was taken to hospital with burns following a large fire at a factory in Sheffield.

The blaze engulfed an extraction unit at Monckton Rubber Technologies in Stevenson Road, Attercliffe, shortly after 9am on Saturday.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Five fire engines tackled the blaze for several hours, finally coming away from the incident at around 2pm.

“The injured man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital by ambulance with burns to his arms.

“An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin on Monday.”

Meanwhile, in the early hours of Saturday, up to 70 firefighters dealt with two large blazes in Armthorpe, Doncaster.

Crews were first called to reports of a fire at a pallet yard in Cow House Lane at about 1.30am, where a large number of wooden pallets were on fire.

About an hour later, firefighters were sent to a second incident, at nearby West Moor Park Network Centre in Yorkshire Way.

Fire engines from across Doncaster and South Yorkshire were on the scene of both incidents. Two fire engines attended from West Yorkshire.

A fire service spokesman said: “No one is thought to have been hurt in either incident.”

The spokesman said investigations into the cause of both fires would be launched “in due course”.
