Man came to rescue of woman thrown to ground by robber

The 55-year-old was walking to work in Huddersfield when she realised someone was directly behind her.

A man then grabbed her handbag, pulling it off her shoulder.

The victim initially kept hold of her bag and was thrown to the ground. The suspect managed to get her bag though and ran off.

An unknown man came to the victim’s aid and was able to recover the handbag, but a purse with some money in it had been stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery in Fartown Green Road on Saturday between 5.15am and 5.30am.

PC Nicole Senior, of Kirklees CID, said: “The victim was understandably shaken up by this incident and I would like to appeal to the public for anyone who witnessed this to come forward to assist with our enquiries.

“I would also like to appeal to the man who bravely came to the assistance of the victim to contact the police.

The suspect is described as Asian, 5ft 2in tall and of slim build. He had dark hair and was clean shaven. He wore dark jeans and a dark thin summer coat.
