Man charged over drug linked to death

A man has been charged with supplying a class A drug to a teenage girl who died after taking a substance believed to contain amphetamine.

Poppy Rodgers, 16, died in York in the early hours of April 20.

An inquest found she had taken a paste which was thought to contain the stimulant.

Police said they have charged a 24-year-old local man with supplying her with a class A controlled drug – 4-methylamphetamine.

He has also been charged with another count of supplying a class A drug, four counts of attempting to supply a class A drug and possession of a class A drug with intent to supply. He is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday October 31.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Costello said: “The thoughts of North Yorkshire Police are with Poppy’s family and friends, who have shown great dignity in these difficult times.”
