Station manager Ian French said: “The crews did very well to rescue the man so quickly. He was in a perilous position, clinging on to a skylight, and they got him to safety.”

The fire, believed to be caused by an electrical fault, resulted in “extensive” damage to the living room and “serious smoke damage” throughout the rest of the flat.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire which broke out at a terraced house on Neville Close, Pitsmoor, at around 1pm on Monday, January 2.

Crews rescued an elderly woman from the property.
