Man in court for second assault on girlfriends

A MAN has been sent to a young offender institution for 15 months after assaulting his girlfriend while under a suspended sentence for attacking his previous partner when she was pregnant.

Judge Kerry Macgill told Jamie Fallas at Leeds Crown Court yesterday he had failed to take the chance given to him in March for the "nasty" assault on Amy Carr when she was 18 weeks pregnant with his child in July last year.

He said Fallas clearly drank to excess and having done so again he had attacked his then girlfriend Sophie Wilkinson twice in one day on May 22. "It is quite plain you are out of control. You are going to learn a hard lesson."

Fallas, 20 of Shirley Avenue, Birstall, Batley admitted two charges of common assault and breaching his suspended sentence.

Georgina Coade, prosecuting, said in the attack last year Fallas had jealousy accused Miss Carr of seeing other men and dragged her along the ground by her hood before he hit her on her face and told her he hoped the baby would die. Fortunately, her unborn child did not suffer.

On May 22 he assaulted Sophie Wilkinson, whom he had been seeing for about nine months. The first assault was at the home of a friend when he climbed in a window to get to her. The second was later that day at his own home when his grandmother called police.

Tim Stead, for Fallas, said he was insecure and immature and became paranoid about his partners' friendship with others. He was remorseful and realised he needed help.
