Man dies in Sheffield road smash

A MAN died and a teenage girl was left with life-threatening injuries after a car smashed into a tree in the early hours of this morning.

The 21-year-old driver died a the scene while the 13-year-old girl is in hospital in a critical condition.

Two teenage girls, aged 16 and 17, also travelling in the silver Vauxhall Astra received minor injures.

The car hit the tree on Ellesmere Road, in Burngreave, at around 3.40am.

Police have closed several streets around the crash site as they investigate what happened and have appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with information should ring 101 and quote incident 203 of October 3.
