Man escapes jail for filming in staff toilets

A trainee quantity surveyor who hid a mobile phone in the ceiling of the women's toilets where he worked to record female colleagues in a state of undress was yesterday spared a jail sentence.

Joshua Drummond hid the camera phone in the suspended ceiling directly above a toilet cubicle, South Somerset Magistrates' Court, in Yeovil, heard.

After women workers had used it the 20-year-old returned and played back the footage for his own sexual gratification.

But his crime was discovered when one woman happened to look up from the neighbouring cubicle and saw the small device.

She removed it and took it to her boss at building contractor DR Jones in Yeovil, and he easily traced it to Drummond.

The police were called and they found a total of seven clips showing a number of women using the toilet over a three-week period.

At an earlier hearing, Drummond admitted seven charges of voyeurism, committed between February and March, this year.

Neil Priest, defending, said Drummond, who has lost his job and wasted three years of training, had written a formal letter of apology to his former colleagues.

Drummond, from Cavalier Way, Yeovil, was sentenced to a three-year Community Order and told to attend a sex offenders' rehabilitation programme.

He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for five years.
