Man injured in motorway bridge plunge near Leeds

A man has been taken to hospital after plunging from a bridge onto a motorway near Leeds.

The man, in his 50s, fell from the footbridge onto the southbound carriageway of the M1 near junction 46 in the Garforth area just before 10am today.

He was said to be “conscious and talking” by paramedics who transported him to Leeds General Infirmary.

A number of lane closures have been put in place following the incident.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said officers were at the scene and speaking to witnesses.

The incident was attended by an air ambulance, although the man ended up being taken to hospital by road.
