Man jailed for hit and run revenge attack on Halifax street

Azeem Siddique’s victim, 29-year-old Jamie Thompson, suffered a fractured skull and bruising to the brain when he was struck by a black Audi in Silver Street just before 5am on June 15 last year.

CCTV footage replayed at Bradford Crown Court, showed Mr Thompson walking across the street and Siddique accelerating before swerving into him.

Prosecutor Alisha Kaye described how Mr Thompson fell backwards onto the car bonnet before hitting the windscreen and being thrown into the doorway of a shop. As the Audi was driven off, passersby came to the aid of the unconscious Mr Thompson.

The court heard that Siddique, 22, of Girlington Road, Bradford, and his friends were driving around looking for Mr Thompson and his friends after an earlier altercation in a Halifax nightspot.

Last month Siddique, who was on court bail for drink-driving when the incident occurred, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Miss Kaye said Mr Thompson had suffered anxiety, sleeplessness and memory and hearing problems after the collision.

Barrister Shufqat Khan said Siddique, his client, had acted out of anger and a loss of control.

Jailing Siddique for 56 months and banning him from driving for five years, Judge Rose said: “It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived this at all.”
