Man killed and child injured by East Coast train in Doncaster

A MAN died and a young child was injured when they were hit by an express train in South Yorkshire today.

British Transport Police said the incident happened on a foot crossing close to Adwick station, near Doncaster, at 12.28pm.

A spokesman said: “The child was injured and has been airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish the identities of both the man and child.”

He said the train involved was the 10.35am King’s Cross to Leeds service.

There is major disruption on the line this afternoon, with East Coast and Northern Rail trains between Doncaster and Leeds being delayed by up to an hour.

Northern Rail services between Doncaster and Leeds are runing only between Wakefield Westgate and Leeds, buses between Doncaster and Wakefield.
