Man killed in city four-car crash named

A MAN who died in a four-car crash in Sheffield on Wednesday morning was named by police yesterday.

Michael John Selwood, 47, from Monk Bretton, Barnsley, died after his Audi A3 was in a head-on collision with a Lexus RX on the A61 Westwood New Road, in High Green, north of the city.

The accident happened at about 7.10am. It is thought Mr Selwood's car was forced into oncoming traffic by a collision with a Vauxhall Astra travelling in the same direction.

Mr Selwood was taken unconscious to Barnsley District General Hospital but was pronounced dead at 12.06pm on Wednesday.

The driver of the Lexus, Yorkshire Post Editor Peter Charlton, from Whirlow, in Sheffield, remains in hospital with serious chest injuries.

A woman aged 45 who was driving the Astra has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

n Police in Hull are appealing for witnesses after an 11-year-old girl suffered a broken arm as she attempted to cross a zebra crossing in old Hedon Road near Station Lane on Tuesday morning. The girl thought a van was stopping to let her cross but an accident occurred. The driver did not stop.
