Man killed in cyclecollision named

An elderly pedestrian who died after being injured in an accident with a cyclist in Ampleforth has been named by police. Michael Eldred Gubbins, 72, who lived in the village, was crossing Station Road when tragedy struck.

An inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday. The incident happened at 4.30pm on Tuesday and involved a 42-year-old York cyclist, who was seriously injured.
