David Ault, 68, is charged with murdering Jill Ault, 63.
She died in an ambulance as she was being rushed from her home in Waterway Garth, Pollington, near Goole, to Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, last Friday.
Ault is due to next appear at Hull Crown Court on May 21.
