Man stabbed in throat on his doorstep in Bingley

A 53-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed in the throat on his own doorstep.

The victim was attacked on Saturday night after answering the door to a man who claimed to be looking for something in the garden of his home in Bingley.

He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a stable condition.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

The attack happened at around 10.15pm when the victim noticed a light in his garden on Wagon Lane.

He spoke to the suspect, who apologised for disturbing the man and his wife and said he was looking for an item lost by his brother.

The victim lent the man a torch and asked him to leave it on the doorstep when he had finished searching.

Around 10 minutes later, the 53-year-old man was stabbed in the throat when he answered a knock at the door.

The suspect is described as white, aged around 20 and 6ft tall, with a medium build and short hair.

He was well-spoken, had a geeky demeanour and was wearing a distinctive brown-coloured Fair Isle-style jumper with a zig-zag pattern.

Detective Inspector Richard Partis, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This incident took place very close to Bradford and Bingley Rugby Football Club where a function was being held last night.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anyone matching the description of the suspect or anything suspicious to get in touch.”
