Man stole from dead neighbour

A MAN who burgled his neighbour’s home as she lay dead in her bedroom has been jailed for two-and-a-half years, police said.

David Hunt, 38, of Lytham St Annes, Lancs, told police he broke into the 61-year-old woman’s home from his upstairs flat because he was concerned for her welfare. She had died some weeks previously. Once inside he stole her car keys, a mobile phone and jewellery, and used her credit card to buy a bicycle and withdraw cash.

Police noticed the items were missing after Hunt informed them of the woman’s death. He was sentenced at Burnley Crown Court after pleading guilty to burglary and fraud.
