Man in ‘targeted’ hammer attack

A man was chased by three men, including one with a hammer, in what police say was a “targeted attack”.

Detectives in Kirklees are appealing for witnesses following the assault in Dewsbury.

It happened around 6.50pm, on Friday, when the 27-year-old man, who was sitting in his vehicle on Headfield Road, Savile Town, was approached by a stranger, who asked him if he could help give his vehicle a push start.

The man went to help with a relative, but the suspect then took out a hammer, which he used to assault the 27-year-old several times.

The victim tried to flee onto Falcon Road, with the suspect and two others joining in the chase.

They continued to assault him but he managed to escape and take refuge a neighbouring property.

The suspects are all described as Asian and aged sixteen to 30.

The first is 20 to 30, about 5ft 7ins to 8ins, athletic. He was wearing a woolly hat and a high viz jacket. He is believed to have a gold tooth.

Suspect two has a very young face and is about 16 to 17-years-old.

The third is in his early 20s to mid-20s and is described as “chubby.”

Detective Constable Divek Ubhi, of Kirklees CID, said: “I believe that this was a targeted attack on the victim and would seek to reassure the community that this type of incident is rare.

“This incident has occurred during the early part of the evening, and whilst it will have been dark, there will have been people in and around the area.

“I am certain that someone will have seen or heard something and I would urge them to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
