Man was ‘lying in road before being run over’

POLICE yesterday appealed for help to discover why a man was lying in the road when he was involved in a hit and run incident in a South Yorkshire town.

Officers said the 56-year-old, who has not yet been identified, was “believed to have been lying in the carriageway” when he was run over on Cooperative Street, in Goldthorpe, near Barnsley.

The driver of an “unknown vehicle” involved failed to stop following the incident, which happened at around 8.25pm on Thursday.
