Manager dismisses 'Lego set' claim as hotel nears completion

DEVELOPERS behind a new hotel in Chesterfield have defended the modern design of their building after a critic said it looked like a child's "first experiment with a Lego set".

The Casa Hotel, under construction in the Whittington Moor area, near Chesterfield FC's new B2net stadium, is set to be the town's first four-star hotel.

But local residents have complained that the hotel and a new Tesco next door, do not fit with the character of the town or match the quality of the new stadium development.

Yesterday, operations director Stuart Downham said he was aware that some people had misgivings, but was confident in the hotel as a building.

Site bosses recently unveiled a "show bedroom" which was designed to give locals a glimpse of what the 20m hotel would offer in November.

Mr Downham said: "Casa will be a fantastic addition to the town and will really put Chesterfield on the map as a business and leisure tourism destination. The show room offers everything that epitomises Casa – a touch of Spanish class, state-of-the art technology and the highest quality fixtures and fittings."

Casa Hotels is part of the empire of Steve Perez and will include a new head office for his firm which has a turnover of almost 70m a year.
