Market stall chance to start out in business

A COUNCIL leader is urging people who want to get started in business to dare to dream – by launching their empire from a humble market stall.

North Lincolnshire Council is recruiting traders for markets in Scunthorpe, Ashby and Brigg, and is offering advice through its economic development team for anyone who wants to get started.

The council said markets offer a good setting to establish a loyal customer base and hone selling skills, and allow people to begin trading without costly overheads.

Council leader Mark Kirk said today's market traders could be tomorrow's captains of industry.

"A market stall is an ideal way to start a new business while keeping your running costs down," he said.

"Famous retail empires such as Marks and Spencer and more recently Dunelm Mill started as a small stall so who knows where it might lead?

"Markets are terrific arenas where people can develop their business know how and find out what sells."
