Market town celebrates sheep day

GLORIOUS sunshine helped swell the crowds yesterday as Skipton celebrated a fun-packed sheep day including lamb racing, above.

This year the world renowned show entertained the crows of the North Yorkshire market town with a humorous educational show about sheep and wool.

The flock of rare sheep breeds was given the run of the town’s High Street at 4pm after a day of entertainment in the main arena.

The day celebrates the town’s origins – named from the Old English ‘sceap’ (sheep) and ‘tun’ (town). Visitors were able to admire vintage and modern tractors, see sheep and lamb racing as well as having a go at milking a cow – a model one. The event was organised by Skipton Town Council and supported by funding from the Skipton Business Improvement District.
