Marmite-loving gang targets warehouse for festive spread heist

ACCORDING to the slogan, you either love it or hate it – and, it seems that criminals are among those appearing partial to a bit of Marmite.

A gang who broke into a warehouse in Bradford made off with a truckload of Marmite products especially made for Christmas shoppers.

The haul – valued at about 60,000 – included 15,000 bars of a new product called Peculiar Milk Chocolate Marmite Bar and more than 2,000 products in the Marmite Christmas gift range.

More than 17,000 items were taken in total in the theft which was discovered by warehouse workers in the early hours of Monday November 15. Details of the theft were only released yesterday.

The makers of the yeast extract are appealing for information to catch the Marmite thieves.

Company marketing manager Roxana Parvizi said: "The theft has come as a huge shock, especially at such a crucial time of the year when people are thinking about buying their Christmas gifts.

"We're working hard to replace the stock to ensure Marmite lovers and Christmas gift buyers across the nation don't go without this festive season."

William Pegg, the brand manager at Kimm & Miller, creators of the Marmite Christmas range, said: "Extra workers have been drafted in to run shifts to keep up with demand and we're doing our best to get the products out to suppliers as soon as they are available."

Security has been improved with 24-hour surveillance to guard the remaining Marmite stock.
