Masked raid gang terrorise elderly couple

Police have stepped up patrols after masked raiders threatened an elderly couple and ransacked their North Yorkshire home.

One of the intruders struck the man in the face during the robbery in Sutton-in-Craven, near Keighley.

The couple, who are in their 70s, were at home at 9pm on Thursday when two men wearing balaclavas got into the property before fleeing with items including an amount of cash.

A short time later, near to Ellers Road in the village, three men in balaclavas confronted the occupants of a vehicle that was inadvertently blocking their escape route, demanded the keys and threatened them before fleeing in a red/maroon estate vehicle.

DI Heather Pearson, who is leading the investigation, said: "The offence has left both victims extremely shaken and upset. This was added to when the elderly male suffered a fall at home the following morning that resulted in him being taken to hospital.

"Whilst this was not directly attributable to the incident the previous evening – I believe that the considerable impact of the attack has played a part."
