A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Staff and members of the public chased them outside and pursued them as they left the scene in a black vehicle driven by a third man.”

However, detectives have since recovered a vehicle and arrested a 28-year-old man from Leeds on suspicion of robbery.

Mecca operations director John Dyson said: “Our team followed security procedures and complied with the gang’s demands, giving them money and no one was hurt.

“The police are dealing with the matter and we are helping them with their enquiries. We are also providing support for our team and customers who are understandably shaken by this incident.”
