Mass choir to premiere medley

WELL-known musical director Harvey Brough has arranged a medley of songs to be premiered by the biggest mass choir ever to perform in Hull.

So far almost 150 people have joined the Hull Freedom Chorus, one of the highlights of the city’s Freedom Festival in September.

Brough, best known for 80s jazz band Harvey and the Wallbangers, and who has also arranged a medley for next year’s London Olympics, has picked songs including I wish I knew how it would feel to be free by Billy Taylor and Dick Dallas – which was made famous by Nina Simone – as well as George Michael’s Freedom and Hymn To Freedom by Oscar Peterson and Harriet Hamilton.

Hull Freedom Chorus Musical Director Em Whitfield Brooks said “It’s quite a coup to get Harvey as he is very sought after nationally and internationally. He has tremendous experience of arranging for choirs and massed voices and we are delighted with the medley he has put together.”

There is still time for singers to join. Young people between 14 and 18 need parental permission. To join visit www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullfreedomchorus and complete the online application form, or call 01482 300 300 for a pack.
