Mass crowds mark Iranian revolution
Hundreds of thousands of government supporters massed in Tehran yesterday to mark the anniversary of the Islamic revolution – while president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad chose the day to proclaim his nation is now a "nuclear state".
A heavy security force snuffed out counter-protests by the opposition which has defied a fierce crackdown since disputed presidential elections last June.
