‘Massive support’ for link road plan

PLANS for a link road which will connect Doncaster town centre with nearby Robin Hood Airport have received “overwhelming public support” council officers who have drawn up the scheme said yesterday.

The public consultation on the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), which will see a new link road from Junction 3 of the M18 south-east of Doncaster, was “positively received by residents” Doncaster Council said.

Officers said that more than 400 people came to the events which took place during February and of the 211 completed questionnaires, 93 per cent supported the plans.

A council spokesman said: “Feedback received from the consultation will be fed into a planning application which will be submitted in the spring. A decision on the application is expected summer 2012 and, subject to appropriate approvals, construction of the road will start later this year and be operational in early 2014.

“As part of the ongoing development of the planning application archaeological surveys are currently underway. Results from these on site surveys will also form part of the planning application.”
