Mayor's Mansion House invitation

THE official home of the Lord Mayor of York is being opened to the public this week as part of a drive to highlight the second oldest mayoral title in the country.

A series of At Home with the Lord Mayor events is being organised throughout the coming months to give both residents and visitors to the city the chance to see behind the doors of the Mansion House.

The first event will be staged tomorrow between 11am and 3pm. Refreshments will be provided by members of the York Racial Equality Network, a charity which the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Sue Galloway, has been involved with in the past.

Coun Galloway is organising future events with the Guide Dogs for the Blind on August 25, and the York Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders on October 25.

She said: "It is so important that we get people into the Mansion House, and these events are also an opportunity for charities to become involved and raise some funds for themselves.

"The Mansion House belongs to everybody in the city, and the council wants it to become the heartbeat of York once again."

The office of the Lord Mayor in York is the second oldest in the country after London.
