MBE for former Yorkshire Cricket Club chairman

A FORMER chairman of Yorkshire County Cricket Club has been honoured with the MBE for voluntary service to sport.

Keith Moss, who is celebrating 60 years in cricket administration at club, league and county level said he was "absolutely chuffed".

One of his greatest achievements as chairman of YCCC, a position he held until 2003, was realising plans to knock down the old Western Terrace at Headingley, then considered a haven for rowdy behaviour, and replacing it with the West Stand.

The 75-year-old, a friend and neighbour of the late legendary cricketer Sir Leonard Hutton, is president of both Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club, where Sir Leonard began his career, and the JCT 600 Bradford Cricket League.

In 1999 he was awarded the Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy for services to the Bradford Cricket League – a trophy he recently presented

to former England and Yorkshire captain Raymond Illingworth.

Mr Illingworth said he was delighted for Mr Moss.

In 2003 Mr Moss founded the Sir Leonard Hutton 364 Club, dedicated to the memory of the cricketer who scored 364 for England versus Australia at The Oval in 1938. Every summer he organises a fundraising dinner with the profits going to cricketing causes – and last year brought former Prime Minister Sir John Major to Headingley as guest speaker.
