Meadowhall academy wins Business of the Year prize

BOSSES at Meadowhall’s Source Academy are celebrating after winning the Business of the Year prize at last week’s Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

More than 400 guests attended the awards ceremony, at Rotherham’s Magna centre.

The event included the Salute to Business awards, which saw Warwick Ward (Machinery) Ltd honoured for 40 years of trading, while Fosters Bakery was given a prize for 50 years in its industry and Cooke Fuels was recognised for achieving a huge 165 years in business.

The managing director of the Source Academy, Ann Cadman, said: “Winning Business of the Year is a fantastic achievement for all at the academy.

“We have worked hard to reach out to a wider audience across Barnsley and Rotherham, with the Source at Rotherham launch planned for 2011.

“We are extremely grateful for this recognition and will be displaying the award proudly.”

Established in 2003, the Source Academy is a training and development centre that was set up as a charity in partnership with Sheffield Council and Meadowhall. It aims to provide professional training for people in business, apprenticeships for school students and programmes for the unemployed.

Other category winners who received awards on Friday night were Steel City Promotions Ltd, BG Controls Group Ltd, Kostal UK Ltd, the Gillian Banks Theatre School. Osborne Technologies Ltd, Bramall Construction Ltd and Westfield Health.

Friday night’s awards ceremony was also the first event at which Andrew Denniff took up his new role as executive director of Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
