Memento of band's history for auction

A RARE memento of the famous Black Dyke Mills Band is expected to fetch more than £200 when is goes up for auction.

Fans can bid online for the gilt-lined, white-glazed jug which bears a record of all the competition prizes the band won between 1856 and 1882.

The Queensbury-based brass band, which is now called the Black Dyke Band, has won numerous prizes and made more than 300 recordings since its official formation in 1855.

The 19th century jug was made by Staffordshire pottery Sampson Bridgwood and Sons and is up for sale at Lancashire auction house, Silverwoods, on September 30.

Also on sale at the auction are three hand-crafted ship models made by renowned Lancashire craftsman, Peter Coughlin, including a model of HMS Victory, Admiral Lord Nelson’s 1805 flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar.

The collection is expected to sell for more than 1,500.
