Memorial for former Leeds vicar who made '˜quite an impact'

A memorial service will take place in honour of a former Leeds vicar who died last November.

Reverend Canon John Christopher Burch served as a curate at St Luke’s Church in Hunslet before moving as vicar to St Agnes’ Church in Burmantofts from 1982 to 1995.

He was heavily involved in supporting local causes and together with his wife Roz founded the Ebor Gardens Advice Centre and Burmantofts Senior Action.

After his time in Leeds he went on to become Canon at Coventry Cathedral.

He died in Leicester on November 11.

There will be a memorial service at St Agnes’ Church, Burmantofts, at 2.30pm on Saturday, June 10.

His friend Martin Schweiger, who knew him through the church, said: “Chris Burch made quite an impact during his time in Leeds. We are trying to tell people about the memorial service but cannot know all who should be told.

“Apart from his work as a clergyman he was also a major contributor to model railway development in Leeds.”

He added: “All who remember Chris Burch will be very welcome to take part.”
