Memorial service for scandal-hit dean

A MEMORIAL service will be held in Ripon Cathedral for a dean of the city who quit in a scandal before his death last year.

The service will be staged on Sunday in tribute to Dean John Methuen, who became embroiled in the wine and women controversy which plunged England’s oldest cathedral into turmoil before he quit in 2005.

Among those attending will be the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, John Packer, who will give the blessing, while the Dean of Ripon, Keith Jukes, will lead the service.

The dean died at the age of 62 in June last year, leaving a widow, Bridget, and two daughters.
