Memory lane appeal to shoppers

PEOPLE are being invited to share their memories of how shopping used to be.

Hull Council's Libraries and Hull History Centre are supporting the BBC Turn Back Time – High Street History campaign, which focuses on the role of the high street from 1870 to 1970.

Senior librarian Jessica Leathley said: "If people have photographs of Hessle Road, Chanterlands Avenue, Newland Avenue, Holderness Road or Whitefriargate they can bring them along to be scanned and displayed along with photographs from the Hull History Centre archives.

"We are also looking for stories and memories that people would like to share about their local high street."

This week the focus is on Holderness Road, with a session from 2pm to 4pm today and Wednesday at Holderness Road Customer Service Centre and again on Saturday from 10am to 12 noon.

Hessle Road is featured at Western Library from 1pm to 7pm on November 30.

A display about Whitefriargate goes on display at Hull History Centre for a week from December 6. For more information visit www.hullcc.gov.uk or call 01482 300300.
