Men racially abused and threatened during hate crime incident in Hull

Police are investigating a reported hate crime incident in Hull during which four men were racially abused.

The group, who were described as being of Asian appearance, were targeted near the university in Cottingham Road at around 5.30pm on March 9.

They were subjected to racial abuse and threats by a man who is said to have walked along the road then turned off onto a side street before Newland Avenue.

The suspect is described as a slim, black man, around 5ft 6in, and between 25 and 30 years old.

He had short, black hair and was wearing a blue suit and sunglasses.

Community safety manager Adil Khan, of Humberside Police, said: “The physical and verbal abuse suffered by victims of hate crime will not be tolerated in Humberside and we urge anyone who has experienced it to report it.

“Victims will be taken seriously and they will be believed. This is not something they just have to put up with.

“We also actively encourage anyone who witnesses such abuse taking place not just to ignore it, but to get in touch.”
