In 2001, he was made an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and he was awarded the president's medal of the Royal College of General Practitioners last year. He said: "In just a few years since it was established, Hull York Medical School has already developed an excellent reputation for education and research, and I am really relishing working with the leading academics there to continue its development."
