'Midwife' Dan steps in

DOTING father Dan Wilkinson turned makeshift midwife when his daughter made a surprise arrival on the bathroom floor.

Mr Wilkinson, a 23-year-old mechanic, had to take action when his partner Sadie Russell, 22, went into labour and said it was too late to go to hospital.

Instead of panicking, he delivered 6lb 12oz Daniella at the family home in East Herringthorpe. Rotherham.

Dan said: "I just did what came naturally. I'd had no classes or experience of what to do so I just winged it.

"I just grabbed some towels from the towel rack and I was on the phone to the paramedics and they talked me through it. They were brilliant. It all went really well."

Miss Russell said: "Dan did really well. I was scared because no one else was there who knew what they were doing. Even though I've given birth before I still wouldn't have any idea what to do to deliver a baby."

The couple also have a daughter Elysia, aged three.
