Midwife wins top award for care

A midwife at Barnsley Hospital has received the Royal College of Midwives' "Northern Midwife of the Year" award at a ceremony in London.

Sally Wilson was nominated by Claire McKenning for the care and support she received when her own mother died suddenly while she was pregnant with her first child, Ethan.

The judges considered – among other qualities – the extent to which the midwife had demonstrated best clinical practice and also the support that had been given to the new mother and her baby.
