Milestone for town’s fundraisers

FUNDRAISERS in a small Yorkshire town who have helped bring in more than £500,000 for the British Heart Foundation have been named as one of the most successful branches of the charity in the country.

Members of the charity’s group in Bawtry, near Doncaster, reached the milestone achievement this month after 23 years of effort and have now been congratulated by the BHF’s chief executive Peter Hollins.

He said: “I would like to thank the members of the Bawtry branch of the BHF both past and present for their 23 years of commitment to raise funds to beat heart disease.

“This is a very fitting achievement for a group of local volunteers who have worked steadily and consistently throughout a significant part of the BHF’s 50-year history that is being celebrated this year.” BHF fundraising manager for South Yorkshire Lauren Mallinson has now presented the branch with a certificate to mark its achievement.

Branch chairman Derek Spence said: “I would like to pay tribute to all those people who have worked so hard during the past 23 years.”
