Milestone for 'wall of fame'

Hull indoor market stallholder Steve Mathie, 48, has hit his century on the 'wall of fame' that he began creating above his records and memorabilia stall three months ago.

Many people know Hull as the home of slave emancipator William Wilberforce and poet Philip Larkin, but the latest addition to make the frame is the unknown James Evans, right.

Born in the city on January 18, 1801, the minister, missionary, linguist and author is best remembered for his creation of the ‘syllabic’ writing system for Inuit tribes in Canada. Mr Mathie spends hours trawling the internet to discover new Hull achievers and now the interest he has created has meant passers-by suggest possible additions to his historic tapestry.
