'Minimum of fuss' pledge as workstarts to remove reservoir landslip

WORK began yesterday to remove a landslip near Damflask reservoir, which is partially covering a 25-metre section of New Road in Low Bradfield, Sheffield.

As well as removing the debris from the road, Yorkshire Water is also erecting a concrete barrier to reduce the chances of such a landslip occurring again.

The section of New Road adjacent to Damflask reservoir will be closed until 5pm each day today and tomorrow. From Thursday, one lane will remain open during and after working hours, with temporary traffic lights in place.

Paul Robins, Yorkshire Water’s project manager, said: “We recognise that any work of this nature is always likely to cause some level of disruption and we would like to reassure customers that we’ll be working as hard as possible to complete this work with the minimum amount of disruption and fuss.

“As a company we pride ourselves on the fact that we listen to our customers. So when residents approached us with their concerns about a potential full closure of New Road over the duration of the work, we went straight out to the site to meet them and try and work out how we could find a solution which would make all parties happy.

“We’re now confident we have a plan in place which will enable us to carry out the work safely and efficiently, whilst still maintaining access to New Road and surrounding areas.”
