MINISTER JEEREDOVER TB STANCE

Defra Minister Hilary Benn faced an angry reception at the National Farmers' Union conference over the Government's refusal to cull badgers to prevent the spread of bovine TB.

Mr Benn faced jeers and heckles after saying he stood by his view that vaccination was the way to tackle the disease.

In his opening address, NFU president Peter Kendall said increasing levels of TB would be a major factor in how rural communities vote in the General Election.

Shadow Environment Secretary Nick Herbert was applauded as he said a Tory government would introduce “carefully-managed control of badgers in high TB areas”.
