Minister in northern rail pledge

Transport Minister Theresa Villiers came to Leeds yesterday to insist Yorkshire would not be let down by transport plans unveiled this week by the Government which pledged £8bn in rail investment – the bulk of it on South East commuter lines.

The minister said extra carriages would be provided in the region and that line improvements are planned between Leeds and Manchester.
