Minister opens key medical centre

A new medical centre has been formally unveiled in Bradford.

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, a former leader of Bradford Council, visited The Ridge Medical Practice to formally open the practice’s new premises in Cousen Lane yesterday.

The project has included and preserved a row of listed buildings which have been converted into a community health education centre, linked to the practice for use by community and school groups for health education.

Part of NHS Bradford & Airedale, the centre lies in the third most deprived quintile of the trust’s area, but over 75 per cent of the practice population live in the two most deprived quintiles of the UK.

The new building covers four floors, bringing together consulting rooms, minor surgery facilities, meeting rooms, lecture halls, a rehabilitation gymnasium and a range of additional facilities.

The practice, which employs over 100 people and includes a musculo-skeletal service, has been able to develop the range of services available to patients, with GPs offering specialities enabling people to access advice locally rather than attend hospital clinics.
