Minster coming up roses

The White Rose of Yorkshire will be beamed onto one of the region's most famous buildings as the centrepiece of a spectacular light festival.

York Minster’s famous Rose window, which was saved when the cathedral caught fire in 1984, and the South Transept will be bathed with the light display next month, with an artist’s impression of the effect shown above.

Acclaimed projection artist Ross Ashton and sound artist Karen Monid will present a specially commissioned work called “Rose”, which will transform the 15th century window into a vision of colour, light and shape.

The minster has previously been employed for the Illuminating York festival, which is now in its sixth year, after the West Front was used for a stunning illuminated work in 2005.

The festival will run each evening from Wednesday, October 27, until Saturday, October 30.
