Missing student’s father pleads for help

The father of a student missing since a New Year’s Eve party has made an emotional appeal for his return.

Souvik Pal, 18, disappeared on a night out at the Warehouse Project in Trafford, Greater
Manchester. He was there at about 11pm but has not been seen since.

Mr Pal, an international student from India, is studying at Manchester Metropolitan University.

He was reported missing by a flatmate on New Year’s Day after failing to return home from the club.

Santanu Pal, who has travelled from his home in Bangalore to help with the search, said: “I am proud of my son and I will stay here until I get him back.

“I am grateful for the efforts Greater Manchester Police and Manchester Metropolitan University have made since my son’s disappearance and the support they have given to me.

“I would like to directly appeal to anyone who has any clues that can help the police search for Souvik to call the police.

“This has been a very difficult time for our family back in India, including Souvik’s younger brother, who views him as a role
model.

“If anyone can help, please call the police.”

The teenager has a scar on the right side of his forehead and when last seen he was wearing a pale denim long-sleeved shirt with a collar, grey trousers, and navy blue leather boots.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “With every day that passes, we are becoming
more concerned for Souvik’s welfare.

“As you can imagine, his family in India are fraught with worry. His father has now made the journey to the UK, such is the concern from his loved ones.

“We have had a good response from our appeal and continue to work with organisers from the Warehouse Project.

“We are grateful to Manchester Metropolitan University for
their support for what is clearly a very difficult time for Souvik’s friends.
